Homophobia or Anti-Homo Personality Disorder

There are psychological disorders popularly called phobias and then there are others called personality disorders (PDs). Phobias refer to fears and PDs to severe personality disorders that are either extremely harmful to yourself and/or others around you.

Among the fears there are hundreds of examples: arachnophobia (fear of spiders), claustrophobia (fear of small spaces), Ablutophobia (fear of washing or bathing), Achluophobia (fear of the dark), Aeroacrophobia (fear of open high places) , Agrizoophobia (fear of wild animals), Atychophobia (fear of failure), Xenophobia (fear of strangers or foreigners), Xelophobia (fear of jealousy), Necrophobia (fear of death or dead things), Nudophobia (fear of the naked). Trust me, these are just a few of the many, many fears that people may have. Normally these fears are only a little bothersome to the person who has them, but in some cases they can be such a hindrance in your life that you need therapy. There are many forms of treatment ranging from medication to in vivo awareness (just a clever way to help you deal with your fear).

PDs are on average much more severe. The best known PD is Antisocial Personality Disorder or its worst form: being a psychopath (ie the friendly characters like Hannibal Lecter in the Thomas Harris horror series). There are many different personality disorders such as narcissistic PD (when loving yourself becomes psychotic). histrionic PD (when your need for approval becomes psychotic) and a few more. Compared to phobias, PDs are much more difficult if not impossible to treat. There are many potential treatments for PDs, but, in all honesty, we don’t have a successful treatment for them. We cannot cure psychopaths. we have to lock them.

I tried to explain the difference between phobias and PDs for one reason. I hope you have a clear picture in your mind by now. In a less academic sense we could say that phobias can be serious, but PDs are always serious. Phobias tend to be life-threatening, while PDs can be life-threatening. Phobias make life difficult for yourself, while PD makes life impossible for those around you.

Now my question: Is it right to talk about homophobia or would it be better to invent a new idea like for example: Personality Disorder vs. Homophobia. Is what we commonly call homophobia an irrational fear of homosexuals, or is it a serious life-threatening condition for homosexuals?

Some time ago South African gay rights activist Coenie Kukkuk wrote an open letter to the police and their bosses about the murders of gay men in Gauteng. I’m not asking if the killer has anti-homogeneity personality disorder. I’m pretty sure all serial killers are psychopaths. I ask if people who don’t get serious murders like these don’t suffer from an anti-homosexual personality disorder.

Murderers and especially those guilty of premeditated murder are the extreme form of life-threatening individuals, but to some extent they are usually dealt with in a court of law. they go to jail. My problem is those who don’t commit murder. those that make life impossible for others. These include family members and parents of queer-folk.

Am I demonizing homophobia? Yes I am, because homophobia is not a phobia at all. is a serious, life-threatening personality disorder.

How many times have you been in a conversation where people refer to HIV positive as a “cure” for gays? How many times have you been in a conversation where killing, beating, abusing, or hating queer people is considered normal and right? just as right as it was in 1939-1945 to kill Jews in Germany. Today society looks back at Nazi Germany and is disappointed with what happened there. The same people who are horrified by the things that happened in World War II can easily change the subject and support hateful actions against queer people.

In the last week I’ve seen at least 15 people complaining about the most despicable acts parents have committed against their queer children. actions I can only describe as psychologically deranged. children who have been abused in the most horrific way because they are queer. I’m sorry, but I cannot explain such behavior as the result of phobia. it is the typical result of a serious personality disorder and must be treated.
